I want to know: if you hate kids so much and they constantly annoy you, why are you headmaster of a school? I could understand you being a professor: many of them have to teach in order to keep their place as a researcher, but then you decided to start your own school? It'd make sense if you just took adults or maybe just took kids that were so young you could mold them into behaving the way you wanted, but no, you open enrollment to the entire population of children in the Nexus, from all different backgrounds, cultures, and codes of respect.

And then you expect them to call you "sir", to be careful with how much eye contact they make, and to fear you like the old fashioned headmaster you try to be like. People don't like you, Snape. I know it's very important for me to stay on your good side, but there is nothing I can say that you won't find disrespectful somehow, nothing that I can do that you'll admire or not think is stupid.

It's a generation gap, and a cultural gap. I don't want a hug or a fatherly mentor, I just wish you wouldn't give me that look that one reserves for something nasty they've found on their shoe. I'm not a total screw-up, and I'd appriciate if you didn't take the time to make me feel like I am.

If I, as you say, do not enjoy the social company of children, do you think I chose to open this school on a whim?

I expect respectful behavior from persons of all ages and I believe you will find that if you treat others respectfully by default rather than assuming familiarity, people will respond more favorably to you.

I will not lower my standards for you or for anyone else. If you wish me to look upon you with approval, stop whinging and earn it.
